Extinguished (for Kurt Cobain 20 years later)

I have no illusion of you
as prophet to our generation
with the words of God in your mouth,
hell, you were barely a poet,
neither priest to a postmodern faith,
and still less of you as a rock messiah.

But in some small way you saved me,
or helped me save myself.
I hope you’ve found some stillness
now that the lights have been blown out.

निर्वाणNirvana (Sanskrit) – “extinguished” as in a candle.
Today (April 5, 2014) marks the 20th anniversary of Cobain's suicide.
